Spring Break Board

Next week is Spring Break...woo hoo!  I am looking forward to a week off from school, sports, and routine.  However, time off from school comes with a price.  It comes with kids that say, "I'm bored...what are we doing today?"

I had the idea to come up with a Spring Break Idea Board.  I picked up a piece of cardstock and some Post-it notes at the grocery store.  With stickers I had around the house, I made this:

I made two columns because I want my kids to have a visual of what things would cost money and what things we could do for free.

This evening at dinner we will start filling out some Post-it notes of things they'd like to do to keep busy.

Spring Wreath

Back in the fall I tried my hand at making my first wreath for the front door.  Now that it's spring I've been thinking it's time for a change.  I have been wanting something fresh and well, "springy."

I had a vision in my head and headed to Hobby Lobby.  Instead of wrapping the wreath form in yarn this time, I wanted to use moss because of the texture it would provide.

After about 20 minutes in the store, here are the products I walked out with.

Spanish Moss

Fake butterflies

Flower sprig

Silk daisies

Foam wreath

I started by laying out a sheet in the kitchen because that Spanish moss is a mess to work with.  I was going to go in the garage, but it was too cold.  Using a low-temp glue gun and special glue for foam, I went to work applying the moss to the wreath form.

Once the form was covered I began the tedious work of cutting the small pink and white buds from the stems.  Then I stuck the individual buds in and around the wreath.

After placing all of the small pink and white buds, I decided to add some daisies.  Not sure if you feel this way, but nothing says "spring" like daisies.

And the final touch was to add the fake butterflies.

Such a fresh-looking wreath.  I love it so much I almost would rather it be indoors so I could see it everyday.

Spring Wreath Ideas

Oh, Good Lord, has it really been a week since I have posted something?  I am having a hard time fitting in this whole blogging thing with working and having 2 children.  Plus...where is the time to complete projects?

Anyhow, I am wanting to make a spring wreath for our front door to replace the felt wreath I made in the fall.  I haven't decided, exactly, what I want to do, but while searching Pinterest I did find these 3 inspirations.

Laundry Room

This project is about a year old, but hasn't made its way to my blog.  Last year about this time my husband and I were in a fix-it-up mode and painted walls to cabinets in many rooms of our home.

We used standard paint for our guest bathroom and spray paint for our master bathroom.  Yes, spray paint...and because it was so easy, we decided to try it out in our laundry room.

Here are some "before" pictures.  The wood is the standard 1980's oak.

The laundry room opens up to the garage so we were able to open the door for ventilation...since we were spray painting.  We took the doors off and sprayed those outside, but the framing was done in a matter of minutes.  We didn't really tape off the "seam" between the cabinets and the wall because we were changing the wall color as well.

After wiping down the cabinets, I sprayed on one coat of white primer to begin with and then used an ivory color made by Rustoleum (2 coats.)  It's really hard to see in the "after" pictures, but you can still slightly see the grain of the wood through the paint, which added a nice effect.  After painting we added new hardware.

Also, my handy husband tiled the counter area.  It looks so much fresher!
