Finally, part II of the "Give Thanks" post I did last week. I came across the idea of a "Thankful Tree" quite a while ago and I haven't forgotten. The idea is to have leaves that the kids write on each day, stating something they are thankful for during the month of November, placed on the branches.
For this project I needed brown butcher paper, paper leaves of various colors, and painter's tape. I started by taping the butcher paper on the wall and drawing the trunk and branches.
Here are the leaves I am using. I used the die cut machine at work (school) to cut them out.
Here is what the wall looks like right now.
Each night, the kids will take a leaf and write something they are thankful for on it. Then they will place it up on a branch of the tree. The leaves are taped on the wall using painter's tape. By the end of the month the tree will be filled with colorful leaves and thankful thoughts.
I absolutely adore this idea. Looks like I found my next project.

ReplyDeleteNot a silly question at all. I'm a teacher and I took some paper from work (Shhhh...) However, if you have a teacher supply store near you, you can probably find some on a roll there. It's called "fadeless paper" in teacher-lingo.
DeleteThere isn't a teacher store in my area anymore. (It recently closed. Sigh) However, I have found rolls of brown packaging paper at Dollar trees. If the color isn't as dark as you would like add some by brushing on brown water colors.
DeleteI think I am going to do this but opposite. The leaves will start out at the top and then make their way to the bottom! Thank you for the really lovely idea for showing kids about gratefulness and thanksgiving!!
